I took this photo after a sporadic, meandering drive to my current destination. The Tan Hill Inn. The highest Pub in Britain. Night has since descended and the weather has been dialled up to eleven. I’m taking some solace from being in a metal carapace and not a tent. The wind is howling outside and the fact I just used the word carapace may give away that I’m supping wine for morale and central heating.
Very atmospheric! I didn't realise you had a van - I'm desperate to acquire one for adventures such as yours. As it happens, though, I spent that Saturday night in a shelter that I built myself out of dead branches and compacted leaf litter on a Woodland Ways bushcraft course. I didn't notice any wind and rain during the night and, when I woke up to a bright sunrise, I was a bit disappointed that my shelter-building skills hadn't been tested by the heavy rain that was forecast. Of course - the storm had swept through the woods, but it turns out that compacted leaf litter is an incredibly effective sound- as well as waterproofing. Win!
You had to "stand in the prone position" ? Video evidence or it didn't happen.
Looks like a great place, hope the van held up overnight, looking forward to catching up if you're headed anywhere near us on your return journey, campsite is all prepared.
