Just caught up with this one. Again lagging behind as per… sometimes just not enough hours in the day but a great ready and thanks for the mention and link 😍
Hey Christian. So glad I was recommended your substack and newsletter. You’re a portal into many interesting and meaningful things. Thanks for the book recos, Gratitude feels like a necessity! I picked up a first edition of Amusing Ourselves to Death when living in America in the lead up to Trump getting elected…something about a bankrupt reality TV celeb potentially becoming president must have drawn me to it. You’ve reminded me to pick it up again and finish it.
Your description of Gratitude reminds me of Sum: Tales From The Afterlives by David Eagleman. A mind- and perspective-expanding book for me. Written so plainly and vulnerably it has hints of Vonnegut in spirit.
🙋🏻♀️ As usual loved your missive. Books have been my foundation and sometimes my salvation. I too have a hard time concentrating and so I find myself listening to a lot of audiobooks as I knit or while on my way to work. This is a great experience, but not as important as actually picking up a book and reading it. Thanks for your suggestions which I will implement starting next week. I need those bookshelves …
Greetings Caroline, great to hear from you. I hear you on the bookshelves. I'm hoping to consolidate at some point. Get all the papery ones in the one place next to a comfy chair and a decent standing light. :-)

Thank you.
Hi Dan. Thank you for reading and for your kind words.
I love how books can not only resonate with us during pivotal moments but they themselves can create our own when we pick them up.
Thanks for the 'Sum' recommendation. I'll put it on my ever growing to-read list. :-)
Love that Burroughs quote. Unexpectedly delicate observation.
Yes that really resonated with me. I've spent a lot of time in the cinema recently being wowed at the screen.
