This is really odd. I'm a subscriber, but for the past 3 weeks or so I've not had either the newsletter via email (yup, checked spam) or via my Substack app inbox (or on the web). It just doesn't appear anywhere. Only newsletter that seems to be affected.

Before I drop a line to the Substack people, this hasn't happened to anyone else, has it?

Weird. I'd certainly be interested to know if it's widespread. My supporter posts have a 70-90% open rate and the free posts around 45% and above. The last post was a free for all and seemed normal in the stats. The one before that was supporting subs only.

Always interesting! My opinion was a bit divided on the Hamish latest announcement, I like it but it’s also a bit flawed, feels like a stance from the privileged position he’s in. Vaping, urgh. Rife in my son’s school too. What is it all about?! I miss old twitter too. It was so great when it wasn’t so big. Have met some of the best/ most important people in my life there. Hoping Substack is the cure, open to other spaces too. Have a great weekend!

Thank you Sarah, I concur both on Hamish‘s statement and Twitter.

In regard to the statement from Substack, I responded with some sarcasm, but not enough. The need moderation, but it now sounds very much to me like they don’t want to spend money on it. Weird if that is in fact the main reason. Foolish even. Unless they are giving the individual the opportunity to create mini silos, which I’m not sure is going to help anybody in the long run.

I kind of get that the moderating doesn’t always work no matter how much money you throw at it though. Or perhaps other platforms just do it badly. There have been so many tweets that I have reported which I’ve been told to do not violate their community guidelines and I just don’t understand how they possibly can’t. It’s a bit like with children, he can take the stance that you say no and if you do that there will be a punishment and then you continue to micromanage their behaviour as a way of getting better behaviour, or you have a more spacious approach and try to really be there to facilitate them making good choices and giving them the tools and structure to do that. But I appreciate that perhaps in Internet community moderation terms that might not be quite the fix that it is for children :-)

Genius first line, Christian! Tempted to borrow that idea!

Shocked by the vaping bombshell.

And yay to ducklings - officially the cutest creatures ever, thanks to their perma-smiles. My parents have a Mrs Mallard nesting in their herb garden at the moment - I am on the edge of my seat awaiting a text with some happy news any minute now, in fact...

Can't wait! We've played the duckling game before - both with pet ducks and in later years, wild ones - they're always such fun! 🤣

I think this is the third or fourth year running she has returned to the same nest.
