Thanks for the mention. Intrigued by Foto, will check it out - have you tried Pixelfed, and if so any thoughts on how the two compare?

Weird. I had joined Pixelfed a few years ago and had forgotten all about it. I think It was mostly memes and random images (still is it seems). I wanted something focused on photography where people could chat about their images and connect. I think that’s what I found with foto. My neglected Pixelfed account is here… https://pixelfed.social/i/web/profile/498558389199273530

Another great dispatch. I felt compelled to comment after seeing the image about how strange reading is at the end. As someone with aphantasia I am not able to visualise images in my mind, and find reading (especially fiction) rather difficult. To me, it is simply the rather dry process of reading words and not the visual wonderland that others perceive.

I'd be interested to know if any of your other readers are aphantasic, and hear their experiences of reading.

Wow. No minds eye. I don't remember us ever chatting about that. I'm guessing podcasting is as shallow as reading is. I'm guessing that the only way to participate in the unfolding of a story will be to play video games? Is that correct?

I only really found out a couple of years ago, before that it had never occurred to me that people were actually SEEING images in their mind rather than the concept of a thing. Podcasting isn't so bad as I like to hear people's voices, and it feels "live".

I think this is why I much prefer films to books, much in the same way you speak about playing video games. It's my only way of visually participating.

I also believe that it's my aphantasia that makes me more able to focus on the present, as I have no vision of the past or the future.

I am glad there is an upside. Theatre must also be pretty special. And a way of building the narrative in real time. That for me is similar to podcasting and reading.

Absolutely! Looking back on my life, I don't see it as having had any negative effects. Possibly led to me craving creativity as manifesting something in the real world was the only way I could 'see' my thoughts ;)
