A screen grab of notes with a post from me asking people for their thoughts on notes for this post. I have posted an image of a giant mutant Twitter bird sitting on a stack of notes brandishing a pencil as if it's about to stab something.
This image in the screen grab was created in Midjourney. The prompt was just [Substack notes --ar 4:3] I have no idea why it added the mutant Twitter bird brandishing a pen. Perhaps it just knows stuff.

If you missed Substack releasing their new platform Notes you have probably been spending some quality time offline.

So what are they building here?

Notes is currently in beta for writers who have a certain amount of paid subscribers, but will open up to all writers soon. And/or everyone with a Substack account I guess.

It works in browsers as well as the Substack app and is designed to let users share quotes, posts, images, links and comments into a feed.

It sounds and works a little like Twitter. Some people fed up with where Twitter is going have called it a ‘Twitter killer’. But it’s too early to to really know what it might become. I’ve certainly had fun experimenting with it these last few days though.
